During the visit to Kenya in August 2006 the following projects or groups sponsored by Peacemakers were visited. All Peacemakers projects are visited annually by the UK team but are also monitored by representatives within the local community who report regularly back to HQ at Watton-at-Stone in Hertfordshire, England.
- Self Help Groups - Mrobainne Womens Group have 26 members with support from husbands. Peacemakers agreed to purchase 3 female goats for this group at a cost of £268.
- Kigumo TBA - An established mixed group which provides support to destitute families and orphans. Two houses have already been built for the needy in this community. One for a woman dying from Aids and her two orphan brothers who had been found wondering and living rough. The second building has rehoused a family of five in their own shamba (house). The mother and her daughter (15) are mentally damaged but the father who has destroyed his khat crop (used for drugs) is now busy growing and harvesting vegetables etc.

A simple means of sealing jars or bags is to be investigated.

Malaria kills many in Kenya, particularly the young (including babies) and much work is needed to educate the rural population to take preventative measures and protect themselves. The local Medical Officer had confirmed that Malaria is responsible for 33% of all deaths in the country so Peacemakers were ready to help.

Peacemakers have held a Convention in East Africa every year in the month of August, since our first one in 1991 held in the district of Meru. Our aim is to draw God’s people together from all denominations that own the name of Jesus, without partiality, as God has no favourites. To encourage the Spirit of Unity and for the Church of Jesus Christ to be seen as One.
This August was no exception. Plainsview Academy was hired for a week from 28th August – 3rd September. Those who had to travel and walk many miles to attend from the rural district of Runyenjes, were resident. Much had to be organised, mattresses bought or hired, cooks found for the catering of 3 basic meals a day and many more to ensure the success for the event.

Peacemakers have negotiated successfully the purchase of a parcel of land in the district of Embu, Central Kenya, in the locality where the work first begun in 1991. It is ¾ hectare in size, surrounded by farmers and relatives of responsible members of Peacemakers Kenya, therefore bringing security in its own way. It is also in the heart of rural Kenya where the people have mostly been remote from receiving benefits to meet their many needs.
