Patrick Nyaga is Peacemakers leading figure in Kenya and has worked with Peacemakers for may years.

These groups do support real life in rural area. Here in Kenya we note and appreciate the role played by women in rural development. Women have been in the forefront to support the family unit.
PEACEMAKERS IN DISEASE FIGHT
Malaria is one of the biggest killer disease in tropical Africa. Kenya is not an exception. Our hospitals are jammed up with malaria cases. The parasite has become very resistant to drugs. Drugs too have become very expensive to the poor forks. Prevention of malaria by means of sleeping in treated mosquito nets could offer a solution.
Peacemakers has assisted greatly in this. So far in the year 2007 about 4000 nets have been supplied to schools and to mothers with young children. The last month of the year we have given 1000 nets to the mothers with children and expectant ones.
FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ABUSE
DACA is an arm of peacemakers that campaigns against drug abuse. Thanks to patron Len Little for his tireless effort. He is an inspiration towards this vision. Drug abuse is common here. Khat - Miraa - local brew - hard drugs like bhang are common among our youth. They have adverse effects – Impoverishes the families - source of insecurity and kills the victim. Just as we have fought the HIV Pandemic, we should equally fight drug abuse.
How have we done this:-
1. Through seminars - To educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse.
2. Give hope back to the youth gone astray/guidance and counseling individuals and groups.
3. Help the youth to use other alternative ways of earning money other than drug peddling.
DACA PROJECTS
DACA Projects are intended to offer an alternative means of source of income.
- Horticulture - Using water pump machine
- Brick making - Using brick making machine. This machines will help in making bricks from soil and need no burning (firing). The mixture ratio is 1:20 cement, 20 wheelbarrows of red soil.
- We also have a pilot project at Kivuria Primary School. The construction of adapted long drop toilet using the soil bricks.
- In DACA activities we also wish to use the youth in environmental conservation by planting trees.
- The HIV Training seminar at Nanyuki cottage hospital postponed to April 2008.
NOT IN VAIN
Through the peacemakers missions the community has immensely benefited. Peacemakers has managed to build bridges and has crossed through the ridges of different, religious and cultural diversely. We have served all equally regardless of their social status. The reports we receive back are very encouraging. We see people in the eyes of God and serve them as Christ did. The community is getting transformed.
PEACEMAKERS MOVING ACROSS THE BOUNDARIES
The three of us Moses Nzioka, Pastor Salesio Njiru and Co-ordinator Patrick Nyaga visited Tanzania this December. We were hosted by Bishop Mlenga in Korogwe near Arusha Tanzania. We had a good time with church leaders, about 20 of them. There was a warm reception. The peacemakers vision was well received. They were very willing to host the next leaders seminar of August 2008.
- A budget will be drawn from there
- And the venue for the meeting
- There is still communication and I hope this report will keep you abreast with news.
