Malaria kills many in Kenya, particularly the young (including babies) and much work is needed to educate the rural population to take preventative measures and protect themselves. The local Medical Officer had confirmed that Malaria is responsible for 33% of all deaths in the country so Peacemakers were ready to help.

Malaria kills many in Kenya, particularly the young (including babies) and much work is needed to educate the rural population to take preventative measures and protect themselves. The local Medical Officer had confirmed that Malaria is responsible for 33% of all deaths in the country so Peacemakers were ready to help. 
 
The purchase of large size mosquito nets enabled a whole family to be protected overnight whereas a single size net would automatically be taken by the head of the household, ie the man! (The wife would actually expect the man to take it for himself). Sufficient funds were available on the recent visit by the Peacemakers team to provide 300 large nets
Malaria is responsible for 33% of all deaths in the country 
           
and this project will be monitored by the local Health Authority, with the help of local Peacemakers personnel, to check the effectiveness on malaria infection. Another possible project to combat Malaria is to be investigated. This will involve providing oils to spread on the surface of ponds to kill the mosquito larvae. Only a very small amount is required to cover a large pond but checks need to be made on the availability and cost of the oils and whether any health risks or other side effects may occur.
