Peacemakers have continued to support the locally based Oasis Project. This is an event held on the last Saturday of the month (except December) where local organisations or charities gather together in the Watton-at-Stone Methodist Church Hall to fund-raise and promote their activities. There are a variety of stalls selling goods including: Fair Trade, Plants; Bric-Brac; Books/Videos; Handcrafts and Home-made produce. There are also sometimes guest organisations invited, eg Dr Banardos, Mercy Ships, Isobel Hospice , Herts Society for the Blind.

Oasis offers a haven for a couple of hours for anyone to call in and browse around and perhaps support the groups represented. There is always a good supply of tea and coffee and a plentiful array of hand made scones. The church is set out with tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the refreshments and a pleasant chat with neighbours and friends. Sandra Robey the organiser says “it’s a good way to bring the community together and the world into our village as we hear about the work of different charities”.

Peacemakers mans a Bric-a-Brac stall most months and offers for sale items donated or brought back from Kenya, including hand made jewellery, leather goods and batiks. In addition the opportunity is taken to present details of our activities via display boards or occasionally a video of projects in Kenya. We hope to show details of the recent fund raising Trek to Mount Kenya and the currently active projects we are sponsoring at forthcoming Oasis gatherings.

For the 2006 year a total of approximately £ 650 has been raised at the Oasis events including £60 from the pre Christmas Tombola.
