Co-founder of Peacemakers-International
Peacemakers have held a Convention in East Africa every year in the month of August, since our first one in 1991 held in the district of Meru. Our aim is to draw God’s people together from all denominations that own the name of Jesus, without partiality, as God has no favourites. To encourage the Spirit of Unity and for the Church of Jesus Christ to be seen as One.
This August was no exception. Plainsview Academy was hired for a week from 28th August – 3rd September. Those who had to travel and walk many miles to attend from the rural district of Runyenjes, were resident. Much had to be organised, mattresses bought or hired, cooks found for the catering of 3 basic meals a day and many more to ensure the success for the event.

The theme for this year’s Convention, was ‘The Family of God’. In our society today, the structure of the family is growing weaker from all types of pressures, consequently people are feeling insecure and vulnerable, even to feeling a loss of identity. The Convention looked at different aspects of family life, with invited speakers to share and workshop groups to discuss and to find practical ways of implementing what they had heard.
Speakers were invited from various denominations, which included Doctors of Psychiatry and Psychology.
The sessions covered the following topics:-
- Pillars of Marriage
- Management of Idolatry
- Marriage and sustaining relationships
- Holiness and Righteousness
- Family Finance and Management
- Coping with difficult relationships
- Tapping the Resources
- Overcome stress – Management
- Drug Abuse
- How to relate to rebellious children in the Family
- Healthy Lifestyles
The feedback from the delegates attending the convention was that “they appreciate Peacemakers’ vision, ‘to reach the communities spiritually and in their social needs’; - this is very unique”. Their only complaint was that the time was not long enough to absorb and comprehend everything that God was saying through His unadulterated scriptures. Their request was that we do it again next year, which we have agreed to do on a larger scale, but with a difference.
I have written to the delegates reminding them that they have received pure practical family life teaching from the Bible, through God’s ministers. There is an answer in the Bible to meet every situation and need. We have much to turn away from in our every day lives, but as we repent and receive the Help of the Holy Spirit, lives will be radically changed and we will have the victory and be overcomers.
