Well done to all the trekers who put themselves through physical stress and altitude sickness to achieve almost the impossible and well done also to all their sponsors who with their financial support have helped save lives in Kenya and met needs in a variety of ways.
Most of the £28,000.00 has been spent on specific projects, or directed towards health care and food preservation training in local communities and in the setting up of more registered Self Help Groups.
Mosquito nets have been purchased for £1.00 each and distributed free to every child in the local schools for them to take home for the protection of the whole family. This project continues with a further 10,000 nets now on order.

Pumps have been purchased for the youth drug rehabilitation projects for irrigation of land farmed for food production
A Posho Mill Machine has been repaired (maize grinding machine). This is run by’ Jaconiah’ leading the Greenhope Self Help Group who charges farmers to grind their maize to flour.
Over 500 Bibles have been bought and distributed throughout the local communities by local pastors..
Women’s Self Help Groups, who care for orphan children, as well as the community’s needs, are supported financially. More homes will be built from the funds. (See the separate article on two small houses that have been built out of sponsored money, to house the orphan homeless and Aids and Drug sufferers).
Fertilizer and seeds donated to increase the food production of the Self Help Groups to accommodate the growing numbers of orphans they care and provide for.
Teaching and Training on preserving foods is now happening but needs more investment.
Pilot Toilet Project: A Latrine house is being built to improve on hygiene and cut down on disease.
Still to come is the purchase of an oxygen concentrator for the Embu Hospital, children’s ward, This is on order. In addition
lockers for nursing staff and a screen in the Babies Ward to isolate infectious babies are being provided .
Brick making machines to be purchased as part of a re-habilitation scheme for young drug addicts.
The above list indicates the wide variety of projects and resources which are being provided with the balance of the money being put into a Building Fund Account in Embu where Peacemakers are about to start building a Community Centre on the plot of land purchased in 2005/6. Plans are now being drawn up and costed for the first stage.
As the Trek was such a wonderful way to raise money for these needy communities and such a tremendous experience for all those involved, it is planned to organise another Trek in 2008. If you are interested in being part of a team, then please get in touch with us for further details.
Thank you for your interest and continued support.
